# 📥 How to Download Udemy Videos

Udemy hosts its lectures behind login-protected APIs, so you can’t just grab a `.m3u8` or `.mpd` URL from the Network tab. 

To download reliably, you need some tools.

In this guide ill show you how to do it the manual hacker-kinda-feeling-like way.

## 1. Get the Lecture or Course URL

Navigate to the course and lecture you want. Copy the full URL from your browser:

You can use either a lecture link (downloads just that video) or the base course URL (downloads all lectures you have access to).

## 2. Locate Your Chrome Profile

yt-dlp needs to know which Chrome profile to read cookies from.

* Open a new tab and go to:

  ```
  chrome://profile-internals
  ```

* Look for **Profile Path**, e.g.:

  ```
  Profile Path: /Users/devin/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Profile 197
  ```

* The last part (`Profile 197`) is the profile name you’ll use in `--cookies-from-browser`.

  * If you see `Default`, use `"chrome:Default"`.
  * If you see `Profile 1`, use `"chrome:Profile 1"`.
  * Etc.

## 3. Run yt-dlp with Cookies

Here’s the working command pattern:

yt-dlp \
  --cookies-from-browser "chrome:Profile 197" \
  --referer "https://www.udemy.com/course/chrome-extension/learn/lecture/25704636" \
  --add-header "Origin: https://www.udemy.com" \
  -N 16 -f "bestvideo+bestaudio/best" \
  --merge-output-format mp4 \
  "https://www.udemy.com/course/chrome-extension/learn/lecture/25704636"

## 4. What Each Flag Does

* `--cookies-from-browser "chrome:Profile 197"` → grabs your authenticated cookies from Chrome Profile 197 (adjust if your profile differs).
* `--referer` → Udemy validates requests against the lecture URL.
* `--add-header "Origin: https://www.udemy.com"` → mimics what a browser would send (prevents 403s).
* `-N 16` → downloads 16 fragments in parallel, which speeds up long lectures.
* `-f "bestvideo+bestaudio/best"` → picks the best quality video + audio and merges them.
* `--merge-output-format mp4` → ensures the final file is MP4, even if streams are WebM.

## 5. Performance Options

* **Faster with more concurrency**
  Increase fragments:

  ```bash
  -N 32
  ```

  (but 16 is usually stable).

* **Fastest with aria2c**
  Install aria2:

  ```bash
  brew install aria2
  ```

  Run with:

  ```bash
  yt-dlp \
    --cookies-from-browser "chrome:Profile 197" \
    --referer "https://www.udemy.com/course/chrome-extension/learn/lecture/25704636" \
    --add-header "Origin: https://www.udemy.com" \
    --downloader aria2c \
